Rar!

I recently joined the sprinters' squad to prepare for the Asian Indoor Games and so today, we were doing a test set/lactic set/something or other. Half way through the set, John, our coach, says, "You gotta be aggressive! You people aren't aggressive enough. You got to want it. The best sprinters in the world want to tear the arms and legs off their opponents!"

So, I figure it's worth a shot and I spend the next set going, "Rar! Rar! I am AGGRESSIVE! Rar!" Okay, well, not exactly. But I tried.

And all I can say is, being aggrassive is really, really mentally tiring.

When I was racing I would spend a lot of time beforehand focusing on my opponents and learning to hate them. Literally, hate them. I would walk to the blocks having convinced myself that they were evil people whom I had to beat down and teach a lesson to. I hated them with a passion. That gave me a boost at the end when my hate would fuel my power...

... come to the dark side, my young padawan. Use the power of your hate, strike your opponent down and join me at my side!

(of course, I left the hate in the pool. Once I got out I would shake their hand and smile).
