Oooooh..... yeah!

When I was really young, my favourite pro wrestler was The Macho Man, Randy Savage. I scorned the hordes of Hulkamaniacs running around the school playground, who would ask "Whaddya goin' to do?" and try to leg drop you. Not me. I would run in humming Land of Hope and Glory, scream in an almost incoherent choking sound, "Ooooh.... yeah!" and go for the elbow off the top rope, still the best finishing move ever.

My memories were stirred by Bill Simmon's latest mailbag, where he argues that the Macho Man was, in fact, the greatest professional wrestler he'd ever seen, and I fully agree with him.

I went on to YouTube and found one of the greatest matches ever- Macho Man vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat" at Wrestlemania III, not just a great match in itself by a precursor to the modern matches today: trash-talking, injuries, dangerous props, managers, assistance from outside the ring, the referee getting knocked out, the unexpected reverse at the end- it's all there. Most of all, you get two guys really going at it against each other with a very high level of technical skill and showmanship. Simply fantastic.
Part 1 (first 10 minutes)
Part 2

The Macho Man is still wrestling, and he even made a cameo in the first Spider-Man movie, as the wrestler that Peter Parker fights for cash.

Everyone say it with me now....... Ooooooooohhhhh....... YEAH!!!!!
